PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY – SOUTH BRUNSWICK HIGH SCHOOL
February 20, 2026, 10:30 a.m.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is responding to reports of a potential violent incident at South Brunswick High School this morning. Out of an abundance of caution, the school has been placed on lockdown while multiple deputies clear the campus.
At this time, investigators believe the report to be a “swatting” incident – a false claim intended to trigger a large law‑enforcement response.
There is no known threat to students or staff.
Deputies are conducting a thorough sweep of the school to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. Sheriff Brian Chism is en route and receiving updates from command staff.
Similar false reports have been made at schools nationwide this morning. While these calls are disruptive and alarming, the Sheriff’s Office treats every report seriously and responds immediately to protect our schools.
We understand the concern this causes for families. The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority.
