WHITEVILLE — A Brunswick man is facing a long list of felony drug charges after Columbus County Sheriff’s Office agents arrested him during a proactive patrol operation targeting high‑complaint narcotics areas, according to Sheriff W.A. Rogers.

On May 18, the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division Vice/Narcotics Unit was conducting surveillance in neighborhoods where residents have reported heavy drug activity, suspicious traffic, and related criminal behavior. During the operation, agents spotted Lindsey Miguel Hawkins, 48, of Brunswick, driving through one of the identified areas.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and took Hawkins into custody without incident on an outstanding Habitual Felon warrant. During the intake process at the Columbus County Law Enforcement Center, agents discovered multiple illegal controlled substances concealed on his person, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Hawkins was served with the warrant and charged with:

  • (2 counts) Trafficking in Opium/Heroin
  • PWIMSD Cocaine
  • PWIMSD Methamphetamine
  • PWIMSD Schedule I Controlled Substance
  • PWIMSD Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • PWIMSD Schedule VI Controlled Substance
  • Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling for Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Controlled Substance in Prison/Jail Premises
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia

Hawkins received no bond and was given a court date.

Sheriff Rogers said the operation reflects the agency’s commitment to addressing community concerns about drug activity.

“We understand the concerns residents have regarding illegal drug activity in their neighborhoods, and our deputies will continue working to address those concerns through proactive enforcement and ongoing investigations,” Rogers said.

The Sheriff’s Office encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity as deputies work to maintain a visible presence in areas affected by narcotics‑related crime.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
