SOUTHPORT, NC — Duke Energy and county emergency officials will conduct routine testing of the outdoor warning sirens surrounding the Brunswick Nuclear Plant on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The quarterly test will activate each siren for five to 30 seconds to confirm proper operation. No public action is required, and residents may hear multiple brief activations. Additional follow‑up tests may occur after 11:00 a.m. if maintenance is needed.

Because this is a scheduled test, local broadcasters will not issue Emergency Alert System messages. In an actual emergency, radio and television stations would provide official instructions to the public.
