Holden Beach is moving forward with plans to build a new playground at Rothschild and Davis Park, with completion targeted for early April.
The updated play area will feature two large play structures, four swings and two fish‑shaped rockers. During its Dec. 16, 2025 meeting, the Holden Beach Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the project’s design, equipment purchase and a related budget amendment.
One of the new structures will resemble a shipwreck complete with a slide, while the larger centerpiece will include five palm trees rising above a multi‑level playset. As with the current playground, the surface will remain sand-covered.
The existing equipment will be removed by Great Southern Recreation of Tennessee, the contractor overseeing the project. The total cost is estimated at $161,572. Initially, only $80,000 had been allocated in the 2025–2026 budget, with the project expected to span two fiscal years. Town staff recommended a budget amendment to allow all purchasing and construction to be completed within a single fiscal year.
Before the board’s vote, the PRAB evaluated three design proposals and ultimately recommended the option selected by commissioners. The chosen design cost $45,236.
Construction is scheduled to wrap up before the end of the current fiscal year.
