Deputy Chief Justin Wyatt and Captain Crystal Buckingham accept statewide honor in Columbia
The Horry County Police Department has been recognized as the 2026 Agency of the Year by the South Carolina Animal Advocacy Association (SCAAA). The award was presented to Deputy Chief Justin Wyatt and Captain Crystal Buckingham during the Association’s annual conference held Friday, June 5, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Deputy Chief Wyatt served as a keynote speaker at the event, delivering remarks on “The Value of Animal Services within the Agency,” highlighting the department’s approach to animal welfare and the role of the Horry County Animal Care Center.
The Horry County Animal Care Center, located at 1923 Industrial Park Road, Conway, serves as the county’s primary sheltering and animal services facility. The center provides intake, adoption, medical care, and community outreach programs, and works closely with HCPD’s Animal Services Unit. Hours of operation: Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.; closed Sunday.
HCPD and the Horry County Animal Care Center expressed appreciation for the recognition, noting their shared commitment to animal welfare and public service.
