Heat Advisory Begins at Noon; Severe Storms Possible Across Horry County

Emergency officials warn of heat indices up to 107 degrees and the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms later today and tonight

HORRY COUNTY, SC — A Heat Advisory will take effect at noon today for all of Horry County as dangerous heat indices climb toward 107, according to Horry County Emergency Management.

Officials say the combination of high temperatures and humidity will create hazardous conditions for anyone working or spending extended time outdoors. Residents and visitors are urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in shaded or air‑conditioned areas, and monitor those who may be more vulnerable to heat‑related illness.

Later today and into tonight, strong to severe thunderstorms may develop across the region. Any storms that form could produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning. Emergency Management encourages residents to ensure they have reliable ways to receive weather alerts, especially if warnings are issued after dark.

Officials emphasize staying weather aware throughout the day as conditions may change quickly.
