Gas Leak Prompts Brief Evacuation at Southport Walmart

Southport Fire Department gives all‑clear; no hazards or injuries reported

SOUTHPORT, NC — First responders were dispatched to the Southport Walmart at 11:28 a.m. Wednesday after reports of a possible gas leak inside the store.

Southport Police and Southport Fire Department personnel arrived to find staff and customers already evacuating as a precaution. Fire crews conducted an interior assessment to determine the source of the odor and monitored the building for any hazardous conditions.

An all‑clear was issued after the investigation found no active leak or safety threat. No injuries were reported. All units have cleared the scene, and Walmart has resumed normal operations.
