Hearing will determine whether prosecutors pursue the death penalty.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Nigel Max Edge, the man accused of killing three people and injuring five others in the September mass shooting at the American Fish Company, is scheduled to appear in Superior Court Friday, February 6, for a Rule 24 hearing to determine whether the State will seek capital punishment.
Edge, 40, a Marine veteran and Purple Heart recipient, faces three counts of first‑degree murder, five counts of attempted first‑degree murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors say he fired an assault rifle from a boat toward the crowded Southport bar on September 27, 2025. He has been held without bond since his initial appearance.
A Rule 24 hearing is required in North Carolina first‑degree murder cases and outlines whether prosecutors intend to pursue the death penalty.
