Town of Winnabow cites NC DEQ restrictions halting new capacity approvals

The Town of Winnabow announced today that the Cherrytree development has been postponed by the Brunswick County Planning Board due to the ongoing pause issued by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ), which currently prevents the county from approving additional wastewater system capacity.

Because of existing capacity limitations, Brunswick County cannot authorize new allocations at this time. Until those infrastructure issues are resolved, this project – along with other pending developments – will remain on hold.

The next anticipated review date is in March. However, if the NC DEQ pause remains in effect, the project will likely be postponed again.

The Town of Winnabow will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates to the community as new information becomes available.
