Little River, SC — A long‑underutilized stretch of land along US Highway 17 will begin to take shape after years of inactivity, as a Charleston‑based land investor and Horry County Schools move forward with plans that could reshape a key gateway between North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Calabash, NC.
The 45‑acre property at 901 US Highway 17, once home to Harbour View Golf Course, has sat largely dormant despite its high‑visibility location along the state line. The investor behind the site has positioned the tract for a mix of commercial and public development, signaling a shift from years of stalled potential to active planning.
A major portion of the land is now committed to public use. Horry County Schools has acquired 37 acres from the investor for a future school site, adding long‑term educational infrastructure to an area experiencing steady residential and commercial growth.
The remaining acreage is expected to support commercial activity, though no formal development filings have been announced. The corridor has been viewed by local planners as a strategic connector between two fast‑growing coastal communities, and redevelopment of the former golf course has been watched closely by both sides of the state line.
The property’s transition marks one of the most significant land‑use shifts in Little River in recent years, bringing new public investment to a site that has remained underutilized despite its prime location.
