Local nonprofits and community groups once again have an opportunity to receive support through the Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) Community Grants Program, an annual initiative that has strengthened organizations across the region for more than two decades.
The program, launched in 2003, is funded through proceeds from the equipment auction held each year at BEMC’s Annual Membership Meeting. Those funds are reinvested directly into the communities BEMC serves — including Brunswick and Columbus counties, along with parts of Bladen and Robeson counties.
Each year, grants ranging from $500 to $2,500 are awarded to projects that improve quality of life for local residents. Eligible programs span a wide range of community needs, including:
- Family service programs supporting children, families, and older adults
- Civic and community initiatives such as recreational, educational, environmental, or technology projects
- Arts and cultural programs that bring creative opportunities to the community
- Emergency services, including police, fire, EMS, and disaster‑response efforts
- Economic development activities that strengthen the region’s long‑term vitality
These grants have helped countless local groups expand services, launch new programs, and reach more residents — especially in rural areas where funding can be limited.
Applications can be submitted now through February 15, and recipients will be announced in April. Organizations can submit applications online at: bemc.org/community-grants
