North Carolina officials have activated the North Carolina National Guard ahead of a winter storm expected to bring hazardous travel conditions, power outages, and rapidly deteriorating weather across much of the state. Preparations intensified Friday as emergency managers warned residents to brace for a potentially disruptive system moving in through the weekend.

State emergency officials confirmed that 436 Guard personnel and 170 vehicles have been deployed statewide. Units are positioned across eastern, central, and western North Carolina to ensure rapid response once conditions worsen. High‑mobility vehicles capable of navigating ice‑covered roads and deep snow are among the assets staged for use.

The Guard is coordinating closely with North Carolina Emergency Management, the Department of Public Safety, and local first responders. Their mission includes transportation support, welfare checks, debris response, and assistance to stranded motorists should travel become unsafe.

Logistics teams have been distributing equipment and supplies to forward staging areas, while maintenance crews prepare to support the North Carolina Department of Transportation with vehicle recovery and roadway operations.

Officials continue urging residents to monitor weather updates, limit travel once conditions deteriorate, and prepare for possible power disruptions. The Guard will remain activated as long as needed to support storm response and recovery efforts.
