On Saturday, February 7, 2026, Winnabow Volunteer Fire Department hosted Brunswick Community College students completing their Fire Officer II course, taught by Instructors Mathew Cox and Buddy Brooks.
The program follows North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal standards and prepares candidates for NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II certification through the NC Fire and Rescue Commission’s IFSAC process.
Students represented departments from Bolivia, North Topsail Beach, Sugar Hill, Sunset Harbor Zion Hill, Pender, Shallotte, and Winnabow.
Winnabow VFD thanks BCC Director Ryan Merrill, instructors Mathew Cox and Buddy Brooks, and proctor Mike Sullivan for supporting the training.
