Recall issued just before July 4 celebrations
RALEIGH, NC — Federal safety officials have issued a nationwide recall of two Winco‑brand consumer fireworks just a day before July 4 celebrations, warning that both items can malfunction and pose explosion and burn hazards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) confirmed the products were distributed across North Carolina and South Carolina through Pyro City locations and independent fireworks retailers.
Both recalled fireworks – the Unity 7 Shot Aerial Cake and the Roman Candles 8 Shot 3‑Pack were sold nationwide, including at Pyro City locations and independent fireworks retailers that operate in North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the CPSC.
The recall includes:
- Unity 7 Shot Aerial Cake Model MEF6096; 87,120 units. Officials say the device can tip over during use, creating explosion and burn risks. Affected date codes range from 03.16.2026 to 05.18.2026.

- Roman Candles 8 Shot 3‑Pack Model RCLR‑W8012; 13,500 units. CPSC reports the candles may rupture and blow out the side of the tube, posing a serious injury hazard.

Both products were sold between January and June 2026. Federal officials warn the defects present a significant risk during peak holiday use.
Consumers in North Carolina and South Carolina who purchased Winco fireworks this season are urged to not use the recalled items immediately. The manufacturer is offering full refunds for products returned to the place of purchase.
Fire departments across the Carolinas continue issuing safety reminders ahead of Independence Day, noting that malfunctioning fireworks can turn routine celebrations into dangerous situations.
