Whiteville Police Arrest Local Resident on More Than 20 Child Sexual Exploitation Charges

WHITEVILLE, NC — A Whiteville resident is being held without bond after a law enforcement investigation led to a massive stack of severe charges involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

Officers with the Whiteville Police Department executed the arrest of 38-year-old Michael Deshawn Smithgreen at approximately 6:12 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithgreen was taken into custody from a location on Stanky Street in Whiteville.

Following his arrest, law enforcement processed more than two dozen felony warrants against Smithgreen. The charges include one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and over 20 individual counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Due to the nature and severity of the allegations, court officials ordered Smithgreen to be held at the Columbus County Detention Center with no bond allowed as he awaits his initial court appearances.
