Tabor City Man Facing Severe Felony Charges After Violent Incident Involving Officer and Civilian

CLARENDON, NC — A Tabor City man remains behind bars in Columbus County following a violent Tuesday night disturbance in Clarendon that left a civilian and a law enforcement officer injured.

According to official records from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence along the 1500 block of Sidney Cherry Grove Road at approximately 7:59 p.m. Upon arrival, responding officers encountered a chaotic scene involving physical violence and a motor vehicle allegedly utilized as a weapon.

During the altercation, 43-year-old Charles Ray Duncan of Tabor City allegedly assaulted a civilian, identified in incident logs as Lloyd Duncan. When officers intervened to restore order, the situation escalated, resulting in an assault on Deputy Aaron Dehne.

Authorities subsequently placed Charles Ray Duncan into custody. However, law enforcement reported that Duncan continued to act out while in custody, leading to an additional charge of malicious conduct by a prisoner for throwing substance at an official.

Duncan was transported to the Columbus County Detention Center, where he was formally charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury, assault on a government official or employee, and malicious conduct by a prisoner. He is currently being held under a $100,000 secured bond while awaiting trial.
