Virginia “Carolyn” Simmons Shockley

Virginia “Carolyn” Simmons Shockley, age 90 of Evergreen passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Carolyn was born on August 20, 1935, to the late William Talmadge Simmons and Mary Bertie Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Rufus Clyde Shockley; two children, Robert Shockley and Teresa Wooten; and siblings, Maude Lewis, Asberry Simmons. Dewey Simmons, Lamar Simmons, Plumer Ransom, Hilton Simmons, Fred Simmons and Talmadge Simmons Jr.

Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Boardman Baptist Church with Pastor Willard McPherson and Pastor Rodney Evers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will speak to friends prior to the service in the church from 1:00-1:45 p.m.

Carolyn was a devoted lifetime member of Boardman Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the custodial committee with Rufus for more than 20 years. She dedicated over 30 years of her career to Ithica as an inspector, known for her strong work ethic and steady commitment. At home, Carolyn found great joy in gardening and farming alongside her husband. She will be lovingly remembered for her from-scratch chicken and pastry, a meal that brought family and friends together around her table.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Terry A. Wooten; grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler), Victoria Owens (Preston), Robbie Shockley Jr. (Christan), Richard Shockley, Stephanie McKellar (Luke); 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the Gentiva Hospice nurses- Jackie, Annie, and Erin for their love and care shown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boardman Baptist Church in Carolyn’s memory, 2040 Old Boardman Rd, Evergreen, NC
