Five officers recognized for extraordinary bravery during 2020 kidnapping rescue

Horry County, SC — Five Horry County Police Officers have been awarded the Medal of Valor for their exceptional courage and decisive actions during a 2020 kidnapping and armed robbery incident.

Officers Fletcher, Koupash, Treitler, Glazier, and Wydra responded rapidly to the scene, where four-armed suspects were holding an abducted victim. Their swift arrival prevented the assailants from barricading themselves inside the location or escalating the situation further.

Using dynamic forced entry, the officers overwhelmed the suspects, freed the victim, and safely took all four individuals into custody. The offenders have since been sentenced for their crimes.

The Medal of Valor recognizes acts of extraordinary bravery, and these officers demonstrated exactly that placing themselves at significant personal risk to protect a member of the community.
