WINNABOW, NC — Emergency personnel and the NC Forest Service are on the scene of a rapidly evolving wildfire burning near the intersection of Funston Road and Old Mill Creek.

- Containment: 0% as crews work to establish lines in difficult, dry conditions.

Heavy smoke is blanketing the Winnabow area, significantly reducing visibility for motorists. Residents are advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed to minimize smoke inhalation.
The fire occurs during a period of heightened risk. Brunswick County has been under a mandatory burn ban since March 28, 2026, due to prolonged drought conditions and low humidity across the coastal region.
BC News will continue to monitor updates from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the NC Forest Service.
