BRUNSWICK COUNTY — March 16, 2026 — The National Weather Service has issued two significant weather alerts for Brunswick County as the region faces severe storms today followed by a hard freeze mid‑week.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday, covering all of Brunswick County along with Bladen, Columbus, New Hanover, Pender, and Robeson counties. The watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail as a strong storm system moves through the Carolinas.

Communities including Leland, Boiling Spring Lakes, Southport, Oak Island, Shallotte, Sunset Beach, and surrounding areas are included in the alert.

Forecasters warn that storms this afternoon and evening could intensify quickly, and residents should be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued.

In addition, a Freeze Warning has been issued for Wednesday from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m., with temperatures expected to drop into the upper 20s to low 30s away from the immediate coast. The cold snap could damage crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Officials urge residents to secure outdoor items ahead of the high winds, stay weather‑aware through the evening, and take steps to protect plants and pipes before temperatures plunge Tuesday night.
