COLUMBUS COUNTY Tornado Watch, Freeze Warning Issued

COLUMBUS COUNTY — March 16, 2026 — The National Weather Service has placed Columbus County under a Tornado Watch until 8 p.m. Monday, as a strong storm system moves across the region.

The watch includes nearby communities such as Whiteville, Chadbourn, Tabor City, Lake Waccamaw, and surrounding areas. Forecasters warn that conditions are favorable for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail through the evening.

A Freeze Warning is also in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures expected to fall into the upper 20s to low 30s. Frost and freeze conditions may damage crops, sensitive plants, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Residents are urged to remain weather‑aware and take precautions as conditions evolve.
