Thomas Scott Nettleship – Leland, NC

Thomas Scott Nettleship, 65, passed away on February 16, 2026, and is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Christine Marie Stamm Nettleship. The son of William S. Nettleship and Dorothy Louise (Stephan) Nettleship, Scott grew up in Jackson, New Jersey before moving to upstate New York where he began his 35-year career at IBM and met the love of his life.

An avid racing enthusiast, Scott and Christine indulged their passion for the sport, spending many seasons racing with the Vintage Drivers Club of America (VDCA), traveling the east coast with his vintage Lotus 7 and later his Crossle Formula Ford. They also traveled in their Lotus Evora and attended many Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG) events. Also seasoned golfers, the couple was known to bring their clubs on vacations across the U.S., and in their retirement, they moved from the Raleigh, NC area to a golf community in Leland, NC.

Despite experiencing early onset Alzheimer’s compounded by aphasia, the couple made many adjustments so that the diagnosis did little to slow down their lives. Instead, the discovery of pancreatic cancer in summer 2025 led to his rapid decline in health, eventually causing his death despite their best efforts.

Scott is also survived by his sister Carol and brother-in-law David Richards (Richmond, ME), their two daughters, husbands and children; his brother Raymond and sister-in-law Lisa Nettleship (Milford, NJ), their son and three daughters and husband and their children; as well as his aunts, uncle, and many cousins.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations to hospice can be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation.

Scott’s family has entrusted his care to Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, 1535 S. 41st Street
