TABOR CITY, NC — A 33-year-old Tabor City man remains in custody at the Columbus County Detention Center following a targeted investigation that led to his arrest on Wednesday, April 15.
William Antwan Gaskins, of S. 4th Street, was processed into the facility early Wednesday morning and is currently being held under a $250,000 secured bond. The arrest followed a search of his property where authorities reportedly uncovered a significant cache of narcotics and several illegal firearms.
According to official warrants and county detention records, the investigation centered on activity within a camper trailer located on the South Fourth Street premises.
Gaskins faces an extensive list of high-level felony charges, including the trafficking and manufacturing of methamphetamine, as well as trafficking in opiates. Investigators also charged him with possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a variety of controlled substances including fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana. Notably, some of the charges include the sale and delivery of these substances within 1,000 feet of Tabor City School.
The search of the property also resulted in the seizure of multiple weapons, leading to further felony counts for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen firearms. Law enforcement officials documented the recovery of a Sig Sauer and a Glock 17, both of which were listed as stolen. Additionally, the inventory of seized weapons included a short-barreled AR-15 and a 12-gauge shotgun that featured an altered serial number.
North Carolina Department of Adult Correction records indicate that Gaskins has a significant prior criminal history in the region. He was previously convicted of felony burglary in 2016 and served a 5-year prison sentence related to that case. His status as a convicted felon prohibited him from the legal possession of the firearms recovered during this latest investigation.
Gaskins is currently awaiting further court proceedings regarding these new allegations.
