Arrest Made in Multi‑Community Mailbox Vandalism Spree

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest in a series of mailbox vandalism cases reported across the North Whiteville, Evergreen, and Macedonia communities.

Investigators say numerous mailboxes were damaged during the spree. In one unusual incident, an opossum was discarded onto a resident’s porch amid the property destruction.

With assistance from the Horry County Police Department, deputies arrested Walker Chase Richardson, of Aynor, South Carolina, on April 13, 2026. Richardson was extradited to North Carolina on April 15.

He is currently charged with: (14) counts of Injury to Real Property – (10) counts of Misdemeanor Conspiracy – (2) counts of Felony Conspiracy – Damage to Property – Felony Littering of Hazardous Waste

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges or arrests are possible. Anyone who has information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. Richardson remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
