WHITEVILLE, NC — A 43-year-old Columbus County resident is facing criminal charges following an investigation by local law enforcement officers earlier this week.
Deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sterling Gore, 43, on Monday, July 20. According to county detention records, Gore was taken into custody and formally charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
Under North Carolina law, contributing to the delinquency of a minor involves knowingly or willfully encouraging, aiding, or causing a juvenile to be in a condition or commit an act that could lead to the minor being adjudicated delinquent, undisciplined, or neglected.
Following his arrest, Gore was processed at the Columbus County Detention Center. A magistrate set his bond at a $2,000 unsecured bond, and he was subsequently released from custody pending his upcoming appearance in Columbus County District Court.
Editor’s Note: All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
