Susan Ray “Sue” Franks, 82 of Southport, North Carolina passed on June 18, 2026.
Mrs. Franks was born November 5, 1943. daughter of the late Haywood and Grace Ray. Sue was a 1962 graduate of Haw River High School and earned an Associate Degree from Southeastern Community College. Sue organized many family trips to Walt Disney World in Florida and enjoyed spending time there with her entire family. She enjoyed cooking Sunday lunch for her family and friends.
Sue served as a Guardian Ad Litem for several years in conjunction with Brunswick County Social Services. She earned her NC Real Estate Salesman’s license in 1983 and was Sr. Sales Associate with Margaret Rudd & Associates. Sue had served on the Brunswick County Planning Board. Sue served on numerous BCAR committees and served as Congressman Mike McIntyre’s Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) from 1996-2014.
Sue attended the State of the Union Address courtesy of Congressman McIntyre. She served on the NC REALTORS Legislative Committee and provided valuable feedback to Senator Bill Rabon and also NC House Member Charlie Miller during her tenure. Sue was awarded REALTOR EMERITUS status from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS in recognition of over 40 years volunteer service to the real estate industry from 1983-2023. Sue was awarded the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS “HALL OF FAME” AWARD in May of 2022. Her name is engraved on a plaque on the rooftop of the NAR Washington, DC office building.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harvey Bishop Franks; six children, Tyler Plante and wife Tricia, Tara Bruton and husband David, Tracie Burke and husband Tony, Tiffany Best and husband Aren, Dwight Franks and wife Cindy, and Chris Franks and wife Cristy; six grandchildren, Cody McDaniel, Matthew Best, Caitlynn Burke, Marissa Best, Olivia Plante, and Hunter Ward; a niece Rebecca Dodson; and a nephew, Charlie Agnew.
Mrs. Franks was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Ray Plante; a brother, Wallace Jeffries; and a sister, Nancy Crawford.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.
