Southport Sets June 2 Public Hearing on Local Historic District Map Overlay

Board of Aldermen will consider proposed zoning map amendment covering 386 parcels.

Southport, NC — The City of Southport Board of Aldermen will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay Street. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public input on rezoning case ZMA‑25‑02, a proposed Zoning Map Overlay establishing the Southport Local Historic District.

The proposal applies to 386 parcels that include residential, commercial, religious, and institutional buildings, as well as parks and vacant lots.

Copies of the proposed overlay amendment and the draft Local Historic District Design Standards are available for public review in the Zoning, Permit, and Inspections office at City Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and closed from noon to 1:00 p.m. for lunch. The documents are also posted on the city’s website
