SOUTHPORT, NC — A new city ordinance requires all golf carts operating in Southport to undergo an annual inspection between January 1 and March 31 for the 2026 calendar year. A $25.00 late fee will be added to any renewal completed after March 31, 2026.
Inspections are being offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Jan. 16. After that date, renewals and inspections will shift to Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. City officials note that Wednesday hours may change depending on demand.
All inspections and renewals must be completed at the Animal Protective Services office, located at 111 N. Rhett Street. Residents are asked not to visit City Hall or the Police Department for renewals. Golf cart owners should drive their carts to the APS office, where staff will complete the inspection, verify proof of insurance, collect the $50.00 renewal fee, and issue a new registration sticker.
For questions, residents may call 910‑457‑7911 or visit the Police Department page on the City of Southport’s website at www.cityofsouthport.com
