Sherwood Spivey, age 87, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born June 9, 1939 in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of Hilton James Spivey and Lula Watts Spivey.
He was a member of Jones Street Baptist Church. He was a former employee of National Spinning and also owned and operated “Sherwood’s Garage” from 1975 to 1997.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many that enjoyed spending time talking, taking care of his farm pond, and fishing with his great granddaughter, Bailey Grace.
He is survived by his wife Corrie Canard Spivey of the home; one son, Timothy Spivey (Tara Walker Spivey) of Tabor City, NC; one daughter, Shannon Ray of Tabor City, NC; two grandsons, Jeramy Spivey of Denver, CO, and Nicholas Ray of Tabor City, NC; one granddaughter, Page Spivey Edwards (Gil Edwards) of Carolina Forest, SC; two great granddaughters, Bailey Spivey of Carolina Forest, SC, and Lily Edwards of Carolina Forest, SC; one sister, Peggy Strickland of Tabor City, NC; niece, Misty Jorgensen of Tabor City, NC; nephew, Matthew Spivey of Castle Hayne, NC; former son in-law, Bobby Ray of Hallsboro, NC; and many other loving friends and family.
In addition to is parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Tab Lamar Spivey; one sister, Patricia Jorgensen; and one brother, Elwood Spivey.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, Dr. Henry Traylor and the staff of Whiteville Medical Associates; and Dr. Hugh Daniel and staff of East Carolina Surgical. The family would also like to say a special thank you to Walt Munroe for the continuous gesture of kindness throughout the past few months.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 12, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Spivey Cemetery.
