Schools in Columbus County Close Ahead of Anticipated Severe Weather System

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — March 15, 2026 — With a strong weather system expected to sweep through southeastern North Carolina, school districts across Columbus County have announced schedule changes for Monday, March 16, citing student and staff safety as the top priority.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Sunday afternoon warning of strong to severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail from Monday morning through early evening. Wind gusts could exceed 45 mph, and a Wind Advisory may be issued. Freezing temperatures are likely Tuesday night and possibly Wednesday night.

Whiteville City Schools will shift to remote learning for all students on Monday. All after‑school activities are canceled, and staff will report under a required workday schedule.

Columbus Christian Academy
Columbus Christian Academy has canceled school for Monday, March 16 due to the severe weather forecast. Classes will resume Tuesday, March 17. School leaders thanked families for their cooperation as safety remains the priority.

Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville
As of Sunday evening, no announcement has been released regarding schedule changes for Monday.

Thomas Academy NC Charter School  Lake Waccamaw
