Statewide HD service adds classical, jazz, and contemporary programming

South Carolina Public Radio has introduced Sound Shift, a new 24‑hour music channel now airing on its HD subchannels statewide.

The service features daytime classical programming, jazz from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m., The World Cafe from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Echoes from 10:00 p.m. to 12 midnight. Additional shows include Sonatas and Soundscapes, Cola Jazz Presents, Roots Musik Karamu, On the Keys, Tiny Desk Radio, and Mountain Stage.

The network says the launch completes a multi‑year effort to expand its digital audio offerings through upgraded HD infrastructure and expanded streaming platforms.

And while internet radio has been around for years, its renewed surge in popularity has made streaming one of the main ways listeners tune in today, a shift Sound Shift is designed to meet head‑on.

Listeners selected the name Sound Shift during a statewide vote last fall.

SCETV President and CEO Adrienne Fairwell said the new channel broadens how audiences engage with music and storytelling, noting its debut on World Music Day underscores the role of music in connecting communities.

SCPR Director Sean Birch said the service highlights public radio’s strength in creating shared listening experiences across genres and offers new opportunities to spotlight artists.

Sound Shift is available on SC Public Radio’s HD channels and through the SCETV and NPR apps. Full statewide HD coverage is expected by year’s end.
