Brunswick County, NC — Recent rainfall across our area has offered a welcome sight and made some localized improvements, but county officials emphasize that Brunswick County remains under a Stage 3 Water Shortage Warning with strict mandatory restrictions.
While the recent showers helped temporarily, they are far from enough to break the grip of the severe drought conditions, portions of which still sit at the highest “Exceptional Drought (D4)” tier on the U.S. Drought Monitor scale.
To protect public water supplies and avoid escalating to even harsher emergency measures, Brunswick County Public Utilities reminds residents that the following rules remain fully in effect:
Automated Irrigation is Strictly Limited: Automatic sprinkler systems are restricted to less than one inch of water per week and can only be run between 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM on designated days:

- Odd-Numbered Addresses: Tuesday 8:00 PM through Wednesday 4:00 AM.
- Even-Numbered Addresses: Friday 8:00 PM through Saturday 4:00 AM
No Pool Filling: Filling family, public, or private swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas is prohibited.
Water Features Banned: Ornamental fountains, artificial waterfalls, and reflecting ponds cannot be filled or run, except for minimal water required to sustain aquatic life.
Active Burn Ban: Outdoor burning restrictions also remain in place across the county.
County monitors are actively tracking water system demands and automated usage. Non-compliance penalties and violation fees are actively enforced for customers who ignore the mandates.
Officials urge residents not to let recent showers mask the ongoing need for caution, asking the community to maintain water-saving habits until conditions fully improve.
