Therapy‑dog reading sessions offer children a calm space to build confidence and literacy

Oak Island, NC — The G.V. Barbee, Sr. Branch Library will resume its Puppy Dog Tales reading program in June, offering children a quiet, supportive setting to practice reading aloud with a certified therapy dog. The program is designed for independent readers and provides 15‑minute 1‑on‑1 sessions aimed at strengthening confidence and fluency.

Sessions are held on Fridays at Barbee Library and feature two therapy dogs, Roxy and Willow, each with their own scheduled dates.

Roxy will be available June 12 at 4:00 p.m., July 17 at 4:00 p.m., and July 31 at 4:00 p.m. Willow’s sessions are scheduled for June 19 at 10:00 a.m., June 26 at 10:00 a.m., July 10 at 10:00 a.m., and July 24 at 10:00 a.m.
