Semper Fidelis, USMC MSGT Paul M. Baccarny, Retired, Age 87 of Ash, NC. Always faithful to the United States Marine Corps and his family until his duty ended on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Paul retired with 25 years, 8 months and 19 days of service to his country. He was also a Purple Heart recipient.
Paul, the baby of the family, was born in Norfolk, Virginia on July 6,1938 to the late William Paul Baccarny and Myrtle O’Neal Baccarny. At the age of 2 his family relocated to Orlando, Florida. In high school he attended Bishop Moore where he started all 4 years on the varsity football team as the half-back.
After retirement from USMC, he along with his brother-in-law Raymond M. Ludlum, retired SGM Army, started B & L Cabinets in 1983, which later became Ash Woodworks when his son Mike became co-owner after Raymond’s retirement from the cabinet business. After Paul’s retirement from the cabinet business, he spent his time working on restoring his prized 1957 Thunderbird, which couldn’t be bought for any amount of money. In the last few years, Paul had taken an interest in tracing his family’s roots. He spent countless hours researching and documenting his family lineage. He worked at it with all his heart.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Lois Baccarny; brother William (Billy) Baccarny and wife Marty; son-in-law Glenn Britt; niece Carrie Blair; nephews David Harrell and Pete Baccarny; sister-in-law Dottie Ludlum and husband Raymond; father-in-law John Summerset, mother-in-law Katie Ward Hildreth and husband Robert.
Surviving him are his children Kathy Britt; Stephen Baccarny (Cindy) and Mike Baccarny (Ann); sister Marion Harrell; grandchildren Garrett and Katie Angelakis, Taylor Baccarny (Kim), Kyle Baccarny (Louise), Whitney Hall (Micah), Isaac Norris (Alison) and great-grandchildren Cain Skipper, Kenlee and Eva Baccarny, Laken Rahall, Sasha Hall, Sidney and Mia Norris. Additional survivors include Lynda White Britt Simmons, who has been a sister, an aunt, a mother-in-law and a faithful friend to Paul and Lois’ family for 75 plus years, niece Dianne Ludlum Todd and her children Brandon Hewett and Amber Todd, his brother William (Billy) children Robert, Marie, Lisa and Larry Baccarny and devoted caregiver Tammy Britt.
The family would like to extend a special THANK YOU to the staff of Coastal Pointe Assisted Living & Memory Care of Shallotte, NC, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and their volunteers, as well as the staff of Well Care Home Health. The love and care shown to Paul and the family during his declining health was very much appreciated. A special THANKS to Mr. Nick and the men and women of the Brunswick County Vietnam Veterans who visited Paul numerous times and brought so much joy to him. THANK YOU for your service then and now.
