OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC — Nicholas Messina, 30, faces two felony counts of assault causing physical injury to emergency personnel following an incident on June 4. The charges indicate Messina allegedly assaulted EMS workers or firefighters while they were carrying out their official duties.
Assaults on first responders have increased in recent years, particularly during medical calls involving intoxicated or combative individuals. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office has not released details about the injuries reported or the circumstances that led to the confrontation. Messina was booked and later released pending a court date.
