All‑hazards agency strengthens readiness through ongoing training and year‑round service
Ocean Isle Beach, NC — The Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department has transformed from its 1970s volunteer‑run origins into a modern, all‑hazards agency protecting the island, waterways, and mainland.
Formally established as a town department in 2008, the agency now operates from its station on Causeway Drive with an ISO split rating of 3/9. Last year, firefighters responded to more than 1,200 calls as the community’s seasonal population surged past 27,000. Three shifts of career personnel, supported by dedicated volunteers, provide continuous coverage and maintain strong partnerships with neighboring fire departments, law enforcement, and local organizations.

The department also delivers year‑round risk‑reduction programs, offering fire prevention education, beach and canal safety, golf cart safety, and disaster‑preparedness guidance.
Supported by Town leadership and equipped with modern resources, Ocean Isle Beach firefighters emphasize continuous training to stay prepared for the wide range of emergencies faced by a coastal community.
Their commitment to readiness and community service remains central to their mission as they protect residents, workers, and visitors 365 days a year.
