Oak Island Announces Temporary Closure of W. Beach Drive for Beach Project Work

W. Beach Drive from 69th Place West. OKI

No thru‑traffic allowed past 69th Place West during daily closure window

Oak Island, NC — Town officials have announced a temporary daily closure of W. Beach Drive from 69th Place West to The Point beginning January 30 through February 9, 2026. The closure will be in effect each day from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The restriction is required to allow crews to demobilize and remove equipment used during the 2025–2026 Beach Nourishment Project, part of the Off‑Shore Oak Island (OS‑OKI) initiative.

During the posted hours, no thru‑traffic will be permitted past 69th Place West. Access will reopen outside the daily work window.

Town officials note that this demobilization applies only to the OS‑OKI project. Sand placement operations for the Wilmington Harbor Project will continue separately on the east end of the island, near the Oak Island Pier.

Residents and visitors can monitor the town’s Beach Nourishment Information page for schedule changes and project updates at OakIslandNC.gov/SAND
