Free family event invites residents to meet firefighters, enjoy demonstrations, and celebrate decades of community service.
WHITEVILLE, NC — The North Whiteville Volunteer Fire Department will host its 2nd Annual Community Day on Saturday, March 14, 2026, welcoming families and neighbors to the station at 747 Peacock Road for a free event focused on community connection and public safety. The celebration runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is open to residents of all ages.
The department plans a full day of activities, including fire truck displays, live demonstrations, children’s activities, and a free hot dog lunch for all who attend.
Community organizations will also be on site to share resources and information, giving visitors a chance to learn more about local services while meeting the firefighters who serve their area.
Organizers say the goal is to bring people together in a relaxed, family‑friendly setting while highlighting the work and dedication of the volunteer department.
Community Day has quickly become a signature outreach event for the station, offering residents an opportunity to engage with firefighters outside of emergency calls. Volunteers hope the gathering strengthens relationships, encourages safety awareness, and reminds families of the vital role local fire departments play in rural communities.
For more than four decades, the North Whiteville Volunteer Fire Department has served the northern Whiteville area from its station on Peacock Road, evolving from a small volunteer effort founded in 1981 into a modern, community‑focused organization. That long‑standing tradition of neighbors protecting neighbors continues today, and this year’s Community Day gives residents a chance to celebrate that history while supporting the volunteers who keep the mission moving forward.
