Friends’ organization invites public to share memories as part of anniversary event
Southport NC — The NC Maritime Museum at Southport will celebrate its 35th anniversary on Saturday, March 7, at 3:00 p.m., welcoming the community to an afternoon of history, reflection, and shared stories. The event will be held at the Museum, located at 204 East Moore Street.
For more than three decades, the Museum has served as a cornerstone for preserving and interpreting the maritime heritage of the Lower Cape Fear region. Standing alongside it from the beginning has been the Friends of the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport, a nonprofit organization established to strengthen the Museum’s mission and expand its reach.
The Friends’ Organization was created to promote public awareness of the Museum; support its programs, resources, and facilities through philanthropic efforts; and provide assistance whenever requested by Museum staff. Under the authority of Chapter 55A of the North Carolina General Statutes, the Friends were also empowered to acquire, hold, manage, and administer property and resources in furtherance of the Museum’s long‑term growth.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the Friends are inviting residents, visitors, and longtime supporters to contribute their own memories of the Museum. Community members may submit stories, reflections, or favorite moments at www.friendsncmmsouthport.com
