Navassa Fire Crews Respond to Two Weather‑Related Incidents Friday Morning

Cedar Hill Road. Vehicle Tangled in Power Lines (Navassa Volunteer Fire-Station 19)

NAVASSA, NC — Navassa Volunteer Fire Department crews handled two weather‑related calls Friday morning, including downed power lines that closed a roadway for several hours and a fallen tree that damaged a home.

The first call was dispatched shortly before 8:30 a.m. to Cedar Hill Road, where Squad 75 Captain Thornton, Firefighter Barrett, and Firefighter Bunn and Chief 19 arrived to find a vehicle caught in power lines that had fallen due to vegetation. Additional lines were down nearby.

Two of the vehicle’s three occupants were able to get out safely. The third remained inside until Duke Energy crews arrived. No injuries were reported. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office closed the roadway while Duke Energy completed repairs, and the area remained shut down for several hours.

While firefighters were still on that scene, a second call came in around 9:00 a.m. for a downed tree on Edgehill Drive. Chief 19 and Squad 81, staffed by Firefighters Miller and Mohammed, responded. Crews found a large tree had fallen onto the rear of a home, causing damage but resulting in no injuries.

Fire crews stayed on scene until the Brunswick County Building Inspections Department arrived to evaluate the structure.

Navassa VFD thanked the County 911 Center, Duke Energy, the Sheriff’s Office, Highway Patrol, and Building Inspections for coordinating the multi‑agency response.
