WHITEVILLE — A late‑night stop on New Britton Highway East resulted in the arrest of Kevin Shawn Smiley, 60, after deputies discovered methamphetamine and multiple smoking devices inside a vehicle, according to an incident report filed by Deputy William Holden.
Deputies documented the seizure of 1.58 grams of methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe, a marijuana pipe, and a plastic bag containing a crystal‑like substance.

Smiley was booked on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine (felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. He was held without bond, according to the detention center’s arrest log.
Under North Carolina law, possession of methamphetamine is a felony regardless of quantity, and paraphernalia charges can add additional penalties.
All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
