June 14 storms led to multiple residential fire calls from Surfside Beach to Conway and Saluda River Road
Horry County, SC — Horry County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to three separate structure‑fire incidents on June 14, each occurring during periods of intense lightning activity across the region.
At 2:52 p.m., HCFR crews were dispatched to the 6000 block of South Kings Highway in Surfside Beach for a reported residential structure fire, with smoke showing upon firefighter arrival. The fire was brought under control, and the residence sustained damage primarily in the attic area. No injuries were reported, and no residents were displaced. The Surfside Beach Fire Department and Myrtle Beach Fire Department assisted. Several nearby residents also reported apparent lightning strikes to their homes.
At 5:36 p.m., HCFR responded to Maidens Choice Drive in Conway after the odor of smoke was reported following an apparent lightning strike. No active fire was found, and the incident was quickly placed under control. No injuries were reported. The City of Conway Fire Department assisted.
At 10:10 p.m., crews were dispatched to Saluda River Road for another reported residential structure fire. That incident was brought under control, but the residence sustained significant fire damage, most of it contained to the kitchen area. No injuries were reported; however, two residents were displaced as a result of the fire.
