Lewis Edward “Fuzzy” Combs passed away peacefully in his sleep June 24, 2026 with his loving wife, Betty, and his daughter by his side after a courageous battle with dementia.
Born on June 28, 1933, in Concord, North Carolina, Lewis moved with his family, to Brunswick County, North Carolina, in 1941. Lewis spent most of his life in Brunswick County, where he built lasting friendships and became known for his hardworking Spirit, kindness, and devotion to his family.
Fuzzy was blessed to share 66 years of marriage with the love of his life, Betty Lou Lanier Combs. Together they built a family that remained the center of his life and greatest source of pride.
Lewis is survived by his devoted wife Betty Lou Combs; his son Eddie Ray Combs; His daughter, Mary Wright, and husband Mike; his grandchildren Ashely Reed and husband David, Frankie Combs and wife Ashton, Tiffany Lewis and husband Tim, Corrin Willetts, Clay Kincaide and wife Stephanie, and Braeden Wright and wife Kayla. He also leaves behind several cherished great -grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and many dear Friends who will miss him dearly.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Fuzzy will be remembered for his love of family, his gentle nature, his strength of character, and the countless memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on through the family he treasured and the many lives he touched throughout his 92 years.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered care, support and friendship during Lewis’s illness and throughout his life.
Though Lewis will be deeply missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A graveside service will be Monday, June 29, 2026 at 11:00 am in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Leland, NC, with Pastor Phil Streuter officiating.
