Proposed addition would enlarge employee workspace, shift online‑pickup operations, and alter parking layout at the busy New Pointe Boulevard store.
LELAND, NC — The Walmart Supercenter in Leland has submitted a development plan seeking approval for a 7,363‑square‑foot expansion on the southeast corner of the building, according to documents filed with the Town of Leland on July 7.
The proposed addition extends into the area currently used for online grocery pickup and the pharmacy drive‑thru, creating expanded interior workspace to support Walmart’s growing pickup and fulfillment operations. The filing also notes sidewalk improvements, new signage, and potential parking reconfiguration to accommodate the redesigned layout.
The store, built in 2006, remains one of Leland’s highest‑traffic retail anchors within the Shoppes at Westgate. Town staff are reviewing the proposal; no construction timeline has been released.
