Graham’s sister steps in temporarily; she is not automatically on the November ballot.
Columbia, SC — Gov. Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone, the younger sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, to temporarily fill her brother’s South Carolina’s US Senate seat. Nordone is not a career politician; her background includes work in state administration and nonprofit leadership, with experience tied to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and community‑focused programs.
Graham Nordone thanked the governor for selecting her, calling the appointment “such an honor,” and added, “Lindsey has always been there for me, and now I will be there for him.” When sworn in, she will become South Carolina’s first female U.S. senator.
Her appointment is interim only, and she is not automatically placed on the November ballot. To appear there, she would need to enter and win the Aug. 11 Republican primary, a decision she has not yet announced.
