BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC — A woman who says she was unlawfully stopped by Leland Police in 2024 has filed a federal civil‑rights lawsuit seeking $600,000 in damages, alleging violations of her Fourth Amendment protections and her rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The complaint was filed by Kennedy‑Marie Warren, who originally raised concerns in Brunswick County before the matter moved to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Warren names the Town of Leland, the Leland Police Department, and three officers, Jeremy Humphries, Johnathan Berry, and David Hollis, as defendants.

According to federal filings, Warren claims the traffic stop was conducted without lawful justification, constituting an unreasonable seizure under the Fourth Amendment. She also alleges the officers failed to accommodate her disability during the encounter, prompting her to file both a DOJ Civil Rights Complaint and a DOJ ADA Title II Complaint, which were later submitted as exhibits in the federal case.

The defendants have filed a motion to dismiss, arguing the lawsuit lacks sufficient legal grounds. Warren has submitted a written response opposing dismissal. The case remains active, and no ruling has been issued.

Warren is asking the court to award $600,000 in relief, citing emotional distress, constitutional harm, and disability‑related discrimination under both federal and state law. The lawsuit is listed as Case No. 7:25‑cv‑01587.
