Controlled exercise near Chappell Loop Road aims to sharpen emergency response readiness while town-wide burning restrictions remain in place.
The Leland Fire Department is gearing up for a live fire training exercise this weekend, designed to keep emergency response teams sharp and ready for action. The training is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, running from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 10241 Blackwell Road SE, which sits near the northern intersection of Blackwell Road and Chappell Loop Road.
While both Blackwell Road and Chappell Loop Road will remain open to traffic throughout the day, local motorists should anticipate minor delays. Fire officials advise drivers to exercise extra caution when traveling through the area, as heavy smoke and multiple emergency apparatus will be active near the roadside during the exercise.
Department officials emphasize that this controlled exercise is a vital part of ongoing readiness efforts to ensure firefighters can provide safe, effective service to the community. Town officials also remind residents that this controlled department training is completely separate from local burning regulations. The Town of Leland’s permanent ban on open burning for residential or commercial land-clearing purposes remains strictly in effect.
