FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAKINA, NC — Emergency crews are currently on the scene of a large woods fire that has forced the closure of a major local roadway.

Happy Home Road is completely closed to traffic between Ervin T. Richardson Road and Hoover Ray Road. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area entirely and seek alternative routes to ensure emergency vehicles have unhindered access to the scene.

First responders from Nakina Fire & Rescue and the Old Dock Fire Department are actively working to contain the blaze. Due to the scale of the fire, the North Carolina Forest Service has deployed significant resources to assist in the suppression efforts, including multiple forest rangers, tractor plows, and an airplane conducting aerial operations.

Emergency personnel have issued a strict warning to the public: Do not drive around barricades or attempt to enter the affected area under any circumstances.

Further updates on the fire’s containment and road reopening status will be provided as official information becomes available.
