Infant Involved in Child Endangerment Case on Crusoe Island Road

WHITEVILLE — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded Monday afternoon to a child endangerment call involving a one‑year‑old on Crusoe Island Road, according to an incident report released Tuesday.

Deputies were dispatched to 2606 Crusoe Island Road at 2:54 p.m. after receiving a report involving an infant. When officers arrived, they identified the victim as a one‑year‑old white male, according to the media log.

A 40‑year‑old woman was listed as the suspect in the case. The report also notes the discovery of a blue narcotic substance, weighing approximately 0.20 grams. No weapons were involved.

The sheriff’s office did not release details regarding the child’s condition or whether EMS transported the infant for medical care. The report also did not indicate whether any charges were filed at the scene.

The case is being investigated as child endangerment.

All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
