WHITEVILLE — A correctional officer was assaulted early Monday morning at the Columbus Correctional Institution, according to an incident report from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the state prison on Prison Camp Road at 1:08 a.m. after receiving a report of an inmate assaulting a staff member. The victim, identified as 43‑year‑old Girand Griffin, is listed as a government employee.
